A friend in need is a friend indeed

As the COVID-19 continues to spread, the epidemic prevention situation in foreign countries is becoming increasingly grim,, and the number of confirmed diagnoses is rising. Overseas universities have closed their campuses one after another, and switched to online teaching. The School of Microelectronics is concerned about the students who are still participating in co-cultivation projects abroad. In order to protect the safety of overseas students, the School of Microelectronics collected the information of overseas students as soon as possible. The counselor and the administrative staff contacted overseas students as soon as possible to ask about their physical and mental status and summarized the problems faced by the students abroad, then reported to the relevant departments.

Through communication, eight undergraduates who participated in co-cultivation project in KU Leuven chose to return to China, and one undergraduate still chose to stay in Belgium to study. After receiving the news, the counselor and the administrative staff collected the information of students’ itineraries immediately, and established the health record for the returned students’ health. For the student staying in Belgium, the School of Microelectronics keep track of the student’s current situation and maintained close contact with KU Leuven.

As a partner university, the School of Microelectronics always pays attention to the local epidemic situation in Belgium. On April 2, the School of Microelectronics donated 5 temperature measuring guns to KU Leuven and gave warm greetings. On April 21, the School of Microelectronics received an appreciation letter from KU Leuven. The letter wrote "A friend in need is a friend indeed! We will never forget your great gesture!" KU Leuven highly praised the good deeds of the School of Microelectronics, and the two sides would further strengthen cooperation and exchanges in the future.

Founded in 1425, KU Leuven is Belgium ’s most prestigious institution of higher learning and a world-renowned top research university. It has been awarded the number one “Europe ’s most innovative university” for three consecutive years, especially in microelectronics. The field is at the global leading level. Tianjin University has started a “2+2” co-cultivation project with KU Leuven since 2012. The School of Microelectronics attaches great importance to cooperate with  KU Leuven, actively explores a variety of cooperative education models, and encourages students to participate in the “2 + 2” co-cultivation project. In the past four years, 12 students have studied KU Leuven.

The School of Microelectronics will work together with overseas students to overcome difficulties, and wait for the overseas students to return home.
